| It
was a bright day for this beach walk from Hoylake to Thurstaston. We started
with tea and my homemade bread in our garden, and then set out for Red Rocks.
We amused ourselves with tales of near disasters at sea, which took on an
authentic air, perhaps because of the proximity of the Irish Sea and the
river estuaries of the Dee and Mersey. West Kirby marine lake was alive
with careering windsurfers as we passed by; here we managed to entice Richard
to join us, who was recovering from a stag do the night before. As we walked
beside the red cliffs between Caldy and Thurstaston we were startled by
a hang glider launch very close at hand. We trudged up Station Road to Church
Farm for afternoon tea, and I cracked my head on a tree trying to intercept
our wayward spaniel. From there we traversed Royden Park – Doris’s
favourite territory – to complete the day at the Farmers Arms. Back
