Nantlle Ridge Walk June 2009
Doris was sick in the car as I pulled into Rhyd Ddu car park at the start of the Nantlle Ridge walk, and I wondered if this augured badly for the day; it didn't, as this was to prove a delightful long walk, and part of an excellent weekend of walks. The ridge starts steeply up to Y Garn, and it was warming up nicely as we hauled over the scree field to the summit. We had lunch with plenty of coop strawberries whilst overlooking the Nantlle valley. If Doris was feeling a bit green to start with, she showed no signs of it as we lugged her over the steep boulders on the narrow ridge of Mynydd Drws Y Coed. Malcolm and Tara were getting nicely into their stride as we rolled along the ridge, discussing Richard Long art and similar manifestations in the distant landscape. The conditions remained perfect all day, with Tara busily practising for her forthcoming citizenship tests; we learnt diverse things, from saints days to dates of women’s suffrage, taking it all in our stride… Taxi back to Betws and decent fish meal outside the Oak Hotel.
