Idwal and Glyder Fawr Walk July 2010
A warm sunny day sandwiched between rainy ones, so we took full advantage and planned a circular Idwal Lake walk, after we'd filled our boots at the Alpine Cafe in Betws with their excellent breakfasts and teas. We started from Ogwen Cottage, and then lingered on the sunny shores of the lake Idwal. Later, once up under the gloomy recessess of Devil's Kitchen I felt the urge to use some excess energy and went on with Doris, the ever-keen spaniel, to climb on to the summit of Glyder Fawr; from there we descended to Pen Y Pass in the next valley to the south. Meanwhile my companions completed the lake circuit by ambling back down under the Idwal slabs to Ogwen. They drove round the mountain to await me in Pen Y Pass, munching crisps while I first trotted and then toiled amongst the bogs and faded paths of Cwmffynnon. Strangely it took me longer to descend than ascend, perhaps a sign of the soggy terrain, or perhaps my age. Either way we all felt we deserved more food, and where better than Pete's Eats? We concluded our day there, munching huge helpings of rhubarb crumble and watching fit looking runners arriving for the next days Snowdon fell race. Return to home page.
